The Allure of Microcement: Modern Elegance for Any Space

If you’re looking to elevate your space with a sleek, modern finish, micro cement might just be the answer you’ve been searching for. This versatile material is making waves in interior design and architecture for its seamless beauty, durability, and countless applications. Let’s dive into what makes microcement so cool and why it’s becoming a go-to choice for creative homeowners and designers alike.

What Is Microcement?

Microcement, also known as microconcrete, is a cement-based coating that’s applied in thin layers to a variety of surfaces. Despite its slim profile—usually just 2-3 millimeters thick—it’s incredibly strong and long-lasting. Its seamless finish creates a modern, industrial aesthetic, making it a popular choice for both residential and commercial spaces.

Why Microcement Is So Cool

1. Seamless Elegance

One of the standout features of microcement is its ability to create a smooth, continuous surface. With no grout lines or seams to disrupt the visual flow, it’s perfect for achieving a minimalist, high-end look. This seamless quality also makes it easier to clean, as there are no cracks or joints for dirt and grime to settle into.

2. Versatility

Microcement can be applied to almost any surface, including floors, walls, ceilings, countertops, and even furniture. It adheres well to materials like concrete, tiles, wood, plasterboard, and metal, making it an excellent choice for renovations where you don’t want to remove the existing substrate.

3. Durability and Strength

Despite its thin application, microcement is incredibly durable. It’s resistant to cracks, scratches, and impacts, making it suitable for high-traffic areas like kitchens, bathrooms, and commercial spaces. Many microcement products are also water-resistant, making them ideal for wet areas like showers and swimming pools.

4. Customizable Finishes

Microcement comes in a wide range of colors and finishes, from matte to glossy, and can even mimic textures like stone or wood. This customization allows you to tailor it to your unique aesthetic, whether you’re aiming for a rustic, industrial, or ultra-modern vibe.

5. Eco-Friendly Option

Compared to traditional materials like tiles or hardwood, microcement is a more sustainable option. It requires fewer resources to produce, and its ability to be applied over existing surfaces reduces waste during renovations.

Where to Use Microcement

Kitchens:

Microcement’s durability and easy maintenance make it perfect for kitchen countertops, backsplashes, and floors. Its seamless finish adds a touch of sophistication while being practical for daily use.

Bathrooms:

Say goodbye to grout lines! Microcement creates a waterproof and mold-resistant surface that’s ideal for bathroom walls, floors, and even shower enclosures.

Living Areas:

For a contemporary, industrial look, microcement floors and feature walls can transform living rooms, hallways, and open-plan spaces.

Outdoor Spaces:

Thanks to its weather resistance, microcement is also a great choice for patios, terraces, and even outdoor kitchens.

Installation: Leave It to the Experts

While microcement offers endless possibilities, its application requires skill and expertise. Achieving a flawless finish involves multiple layers, precise techniques, and proper curing times. Hiring a professional installer ensures you get the best results and a surface that will stand the test of time.

Final Thoughts

Microcement is more than just a trend; it’s a game-changer for anyone looking to create a sleek, modern space with minimal effort. Its combination of beauty, durability, and versatility makes it an excellent investment for any home or business. Whether you’re dreaming of a seamless bathroom, a statement kitchen, or an industrial-chic living room, microcement delivers on all fronts.

Final Thoughts

Before Bathroom

After Bathroom

The Floors, Walls and Shower were all micro cemented with the product called Concretta FS, I choose Benjamin Moore color Swiss Coffee , it was a little to much on the gray side for my taste, I wish I would of used a warmer white or mixed in more pigment, but this was my first time using it.

Before Kitchen

We took down small small walls and just went over the existing marble counter tops, we also added new shelves and micro cemented the entire wall, shelf and counter top to give it the old world feel like you are in Greece.

Here is in the middle of the project.

Walls were removed, beam put in and first coast of micro cement .

Here is another midway.

It's a pretty messy job and requires quite a few coats . You can sand more to get the smooth texture, thats what I ended up doing.

After Kitchen

I am a total fan, looking to do this to my Palms Springs 1920 Bungalow soon.
