When we first envisioned the renovation of our Airbnb guesthouse, we knew we wanted to create more than just a place to stay—we wanted to craft an experience. Nestled on our sprawling 4-acre property, our guesthouse has always had potential, but it was time to bring it to life with a unique identity that sets it apart. Enter the Moroccan-Mediterranean vibe: a fusion of timeless elegance, warm textures, and the spirit of relaxation.
A Design Rooted in Serenity
The design inspiration came from our desire to blend the rugged charm of ranch living with the tranquil allure of the coast. High ceilings became the canvas for intricate lighting fixtures reminiscent of Moroccan souks. Walls were painted in soft, earthy tones that reflect Mediterranean sunsets, while pops of vibrant blues and terracotta brought energy and warmth to the space. Every detail was carefully considered to evoke a sense of cozy seclusion—a retreat where guests can unwind and feel at home.
Crafting the Perfect Kitchen
The full kitchen underwent a complete transformation to ensure it wasn’t just functional but also a pleasure to use. Custom cabinetry, sleek countertops, and a micro cement backsplash added both style and practicality. Whether guests want to whip up a quick breakfast before heading out or prepare a romantic dinner to enjoy under the stars, the kitchen now invites culinary creativity.
Outdoor Magic: The Private Backyard
The private backyard became the crown jewel of the renovation. We envisioned a space where guests could bask in the California sunshine during the day and cozy up by a fire pit at night. The outdoor dining area features a rustic table surrounded by lush greenery, perfect for al fresco meals. Around the fire pit, we created intimate nooks with plush cushions and lanterns, where guests can relax under the twinkling stars.
Connecting to Nature
One of the unique aspects of our property is its proximity to nature. With quick access to horse trails and just a short 15-minute drive to San Diego’s stunning beaches, we wanted the guesthouse to feel like a natural extension of the outdoors. Large windows invite the beauty of the surroundings inside, and walking paths lead directly from the guesthouse into town for dining, coffee, or boutique shopping.
